Ophelia's Happy Accidents of The Swing, 2014

hand-cut copper, hardwood, chain and hardware

The Ophelia mermaid was cut out with a jeweler's saw from a previously editioned intaglio plate. She hangs from a swing and references the rococo painting. You can draw your own comparisons of the tragedy of Ophelia in Shakespeare's Hamlet to the frivolity expressed in rococo painting and aristocratic life in general.
